Matthew MacKisack


Matthew's research, which proceeds via artistic and curatorial as well as by academic means, focuses on historical relations between literature, art, and science. His central interest is the ways in which the imagination is, and has been, theorised and utilized by both aesthetic and scientific discourses. Matthew gained his PhD from the Art Department of Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2014, and has recently completed postdoctoral work at the University of Exeter exploring the intellectual history of the visual imagination. Currently writing on the impact of Empiricist philosophy on art criticism in the 18th-century, and relations between literature and conceptual art in the 1960s.
